The smartphone recently received its Wi-Fi certification

Oddly enough, Samsung didn't launch any Galaxy Xcover smartphones last year. The South Korean company launched three rugged smartphones up until 2015, but the Xcover 4 is still MIA.

No reports about why the Xcover 4 hasn't yet made it to the market emerged until now. In fact, the smartphone completely went unnoticed until a few days ago when an unknown Samsung smartphone was spotted at the Wi-Fi Alliance.

The smartphone goes by model number SM-G390F and, as SamMobile points out, this could very well be the long forgotten Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4. For those who don't know, the previous Xcover 3 smartphone has a same-class model number: SM-G388F.

Unfortunately, the only information revealed by the Wi-Fi Alliance listing is the fact that the smartphone runs Android 7.0 Nougat, which isn't surprising considering Samsung will launch the device very soon.

The fact that the Galaxy Xcover 4 has just received its Wi-Fi certification makes us believe the smartphone will be announced very soon.

Since Samsung has confirmed it will not unveil its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in late February, the South Korean company is likely to use that opportunity to announced new products.

One of these new products that Samsung might reveal at MWC 2017 could very well be the Galaxy Xcover 4, which has just been granted Wi-Fi certification.

The next stop for the rugged smartphone could be FCC (Federal Communication Commission), which, hopefully, will provide us with more information about the phone's technical specifications.

Speaking of which, none of the previous Galaxy Xcover models can be categorized as high-end smartphone, so we don't expect the upcoming device to break the rule.

The main selling point of the Xcover 4 will be its rugged features, so there's no point to make it even more expensive by adding high-end specs inside.
