And so will all the upcoming Galaxy Watch devices

Samsung has suddenly changed its mind over software updates for some of its devices, and earlier this week, the company announced that certain models would receive not only four major Android updates but also five year of security updates.

In other words, Samsung is extending the support for its smartphones in order to align with what others out there currently do, therefore giving customers a very good reason to stick with the company’s devices in the long term.

But also important is that Samsung plans to ship four years of One UI watch and Wear OS updates as well, which means the Galaxy Watch4, the Galaxy Watch4 Classic, and all the upcoming Galaxy Watch models have become pretty solid long-term smartwatches.

Samsung obviously bragged about its new policy, explaining that this change gives customers the opportunity to keep their devices for a longer period of time.

Change already enabled

Of course, this isn’t necessarily the best news for Samsung given the company would rather have these people upgrade to a newer model, but at least, thanks to this policy, they wouldn’t be jumping ship to another phone company.

“We work hard to bring our Galaxy users innovative mobile experiences that are built to last. And many of our customers are choosing to keep their devices for longer, whether they love their specific smartphone model or want to help contribute to a more sustainable world,” said TM Roh, President and Head of MX Business at Samsung.

“Today we are taking our commitment to innovation one step further with up to four generations of One UI upgrades to ensure our users enjoy the best possible mobile experience for longer.”

The new policy has already come into effect on all supported models that are currently on the market and will also cover the upcoming successors.
