Samsung is getting ready for a historic change as far as its smartwatch device lineup is concerned, as the company wants to give up on Tizen and fully embrace Google’s Wear OS.

Without a doubt, this is a big strategy switch for both Samsung and Google, as the South Koreans would thus become one of the largest tech companies using Wear OS.

But as it turns out, Samsung wouldn’t just put Wear OS on its new Galaxy Watch 4 and release it with a vanilla version of the operating system.

According to SamMobile, the device will come with One UI on top of Wear OS, so in theory, it’ll be a heavily customized version of the smartwatch operating system that will make Samsung users feel like home when using the device.

Launch in August?

It looks like the Galaxy Watch 4 will land in three different versions, starting with a classic edition that will sport a standard circular design and will be based on the same approach as the Galaxy Watch 3.

But given Samsung’s increased focus on health and activity tracking, there will also be two sportier models of the Galaxy Watch 4, one that will be a direct successor to the Galaxy Active. Most likely, these devices will come with different bands, as Samsung is likely to use silicon for the sporty version of the smartwatch.

For the time being, however, Samsung has remained completely tight-lipped on its smartwatch plans, but more and more sources confirm the company would make the switch to Wear OS this year. So right now, it’s all just a matter of time until it happens, with the debut of the new Galaxy Watch expected to take place in the summer, possibly in August alongside a new family of foldable smartphones.
