There was word last month that Samsung was working on Nougat firmware for some of its devices, and it appears that a recent benchmark test confirms just that. The Galaxy Tab S2 has recently been spotted on GFXBench running Android 7.0 Nougat Samsung Edition.

Samsung’s flagships, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge, are part of the Galaxy Beta Program for receiving the Nougat update, but that is limited to certain countries.

When it comes to some of its other devices, Samsung is expected to release OS updates for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Note 5 and the Tab S2. The latter was recently spotted on GFXBench, running Android 7.0 Nougat Samsung Edition, according to a recent report. The benchmark listing shows the Galaxy Tab S2 (SM-T810) with 9.7-inch display running Android 7.0. Upon its launch, the Galaxy Tab S2 ran Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.

Samsung might release the 7.0 Nougat update next year

The 8-inch screen variant will most likely receive the update too, but it didn’t appear on the benchmark listing. The information only confirms that the tablet will be receiving an update to the latest Android version, it’s unclear when that will actually happen.

In fact, Samsung has yet to announce when its two main phones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, will get updates to Android 7.0 Nougat, most likely this will happen in January or February of 2017.

As for a successor to the Galaxy Tab S2, Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Tab S3 next year, with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. There’s not much information on the Galaxy Tab S3, except for the fact that the tablet will come in two variants, the SM-T820 WiFi model and the SM-T825 LTE model. The tablet is expected to make an appearance during the first quarter of next year.
