The more affordable Galaxy tablet is official

While all eyes are on the new Samsung Galaxy Note20 and the company’s foldable revolution, the South Korean company is hard at work on refreshing its other products, including the tablet lineup.

And in addition to the Galaxy Tab S7, which is the company’s flagship tablet, Samsung is also offering more affordable options, and the Tab A7 is one of them.

Announced today, the 2020 Tab A7 is supposed to be just the perfect mix of advanced features, a premium build, and an affordable price, so technically, it’s the player that Samsung hopes would win the hearts of those not willing to spend a fortune on tablets.

The Tab A7 comes with a 10.4-inch display, so it’s smaller than the 11-inch Tab S7, but this makes perfect sense anyway, especially since it’s a TFT screen with a 2000x1200 pixels resolution. Overall, this lower spec screen allowed Samsung to make the device more affordable, because, at the end of the day, this is actually the purpose of the A7 in the first place.

Samsung doesn’t provide any specifics on the battery, but the company does say that it’s a long-lasting unit, so theoretically, while it may not reach the figures of the S7, it shouldn’t be too far either.

As I said when I tested the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, Samsung’s tablets come with impressive battery life lately, and I can’t wait to try out the Tab A7 too in order to see what it’s up to. On paper, things are looking good, as the Tab A7 features a 7,040 mAh battery, and this is a massive drop from the over 10,000 mAh unit available on the Tab S7.

The South Korean company also promises a premium metal finish, so while it’s supposed to be more affordable than the S7, its looks shouldn’t disappoint either.

“With consumers working, living and entertaining in one space, the need for a compact entertainment device has never been more important. The newest addition to Samsung’s tablet family, Galaxy Tab A7 provides the ultimate solution to this,” Samsung says.

“Its 10.4-inch screen housed in a symmetrical bezel with a premium metal finish provides a sleek and balanced design. With an 80% screen to body ratio, Quad Dolby Atmos speakers and long-lasting battery, the Tab A7 is the ultimate on-the-go picture and sound entertainment experience. It is also perfect for the kids with an all-new Samsung Kids app that features a variety of educational and entertaining content.”

Power comes from a Snapdragon 662 processor that is paired with 3GB of RAM, which is a decent configuration for a mid-range tablet. But on the other hand, the Tab A7 might show its limits when it comes to playing games, but this is something that remains to be determined when I review the tablet.

In terms of storage, you get 32GB of storage, while an upgraded model has 64GB. A microSD card is obviously offered too for anyone needing more storage, while four speakers are supposed to provide an immersive multimedia experience when playing games, watching a video, or simply listening to music.

The device comes with a USB Type-C connector, and most likely, it features fast charging too.

And now, the tidbit that everybody is looking for: the price. Samsung hasn’t shared such information since the device has just been announced, but I expect the Tab A7 to be priced somewhere in the $300 price range. Of course, this makes it substantially more affordable than the Galaxy Tab S7, but it remains to be seen if this is the right price to make the new A7 sell like hotcakes.
