One of the trademarks of Samsung’s Galaxy Note series is the S Pen and its added functionality to devices in the series. With each announcement of a new Galaxy Note phone, Samsung also revealed improved functions on the stylus.

With the latest Galaxy Note 7, the South Korean smartphone maker announced that it made changes to the S Pen’s design and brought multiple new features to couple with the stylus. Samsung Notes was announced with the latest Note 7, but since the phone was discontinued, Samsung made the decision to make the Notes app available in the Play store.

The company will apparently be taking almost the same approach with the S Pen. A report from Weibo via SamMobile reveals that the next year’s Galaxy S8 could come with an external S Pen as an accessory. The report mentions that one of the Galaxy S8 prototypes had an integrated stylus, but Samsung decided in favor of providing the S Pen as an external accessory.

The Galaxy S8 could feature a 6-inch display

Support for an external stylus would surely be appreciated, considering that the Galaxy S8 is rumored to come with a 6-inch display, enough for various stylus functions. There is no official confirmation of this rumor, but such a move does make sense, since it would make the Galaxy S8 more appealing including to Galaxy Note fans.

Rumors regarding the Galaxy S8 point towards a really exciting smartphone, maybe the first in the world to pack 8GB of RAM. It could also have support for UFS 2.1 flash storage technology and 256GB of internal memory.

Aside from this, the phone is said to come with Bixby digital voice assistant, an AI with more advanced features compared to the S Voice. Bixby would come pre-installed on Galaxy S8 phones and will have approximately the same functionality as Google Assistant.
