14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung’s Galaxy S8 is one of the most anticipated smartphones to be announced in the coming months and many renders of the device have surfaced online.
In the past few days, we’ve seen renders from many case makers, revealing measurements for the new phone and other interesting details. The latest report that's making the rounds online portrays glass screen protectors for the upcoming phone.
The image posted by DfirDesign on Twitter is followed by a caption that further confirms the speculation that Samsung won’t launch a flat variant of the Galaxy S8. Samsung will release the Galaxy S8 in two versions, both with dual-edge curved displays. There was talk of a flat screen version, but none of the recently leaked renders has revealed such a model.
The standard Galaxy S8 will feature a 5.7-inch display, while the S8 Plus will have a screen of 6.2 inches. The picture shows screen protectors made out of tempered glass, which provides increased strength compared to regular glass protectors.
Thin bezels on the two upcoming variants
The Galaxy S8 will have very thin bezels at the top, bottom and sides. One interesting fact is the many sensor openings at the top, some that weren’t visible in previous renders. Of course, one of those openings will be for the iris scanner, while the others for the front camera and the remaining components. In addition, we expect the latest Corning Gorilla Glass coating on the display.
The Twitter user who leaked the image did say that the source was a screen protector supplier from China and that he’s uncertain if it’s 100% legitimate.
Obviously, we recommend taking this information with a grain of salt, as nothing is certain until the phone is officially announced. Speaking of which, the Galaxy S8 might be showcased to a restricted group of people during MWC, while the global unveiling might take place on March 29. The phone will start hitting shelves sometime between April 24 and 30; the exact date is uncertain at this point. Pricing is said to start at $849.
