Samsung is looking to improve upon the Galaxy S6 design

With the Galaxy S6, Samsung finally made a radical change in terms of design. For years, Samsung fans had been complaining that the company’s flagship devices didn’t really feel all that premium, as they were made of plastic.

But with this year’s flagships, the Korean company introduced a new design language that brought a glass/metal setup into the picture. And according to a new report spotted at G for Games, the device maker will go on to further improve the quality of its high-end handsets.

Talking about Samsung’s next year flagship, the Galaxy S7 has already started to surface online, so this week we’ve found out that the phone will apparently make a debut into the wild with a magnesium alloy unibody.

The report is citing unnamed sources from inside Samsung’s supply chain, which reveal that the company is currently receiving magnesium alloy case samples from the same company in charge of making the 6013 aluminum metal frame for the current-generation Galaxy S6 phones.

Allegedly, the supplier was told to deliver a magnesium alloy case with a surface as smooth as the aluminum that Apple makes use of for its next-gen iPhone. To avoid another pesky #bendgate scandal, Apple’ iPhone 6s Plus phablet features 7000 series aluminum, which will hopefully not bend.

Magnesium alloy is thought to bend, but it is also a lot lighter compared to aluminum alloy, so if Samsung ends up making use of this standard, the Galaxy S7 will be a lot lighter overall.

While we are a few months away from the official introduction of the Galaxy S7, the preliminary specs of the flagship have already appeared online, courtesy of a benchmark listing. Apparently, the handset will arrive in two variations, one with a 5.2-inch display and the other with a 5.7-inch screen.

In the hardware department, there’s going to be a choice as well, as Samsung will supposedly be offering two variations: one with a Snapdragon 820 processor, Adreno 530 graphics processing unit and 4GB of RAM, and the other powered by Samsung’s own Exynos M1 platform in combination with 3GB of RAM.

Other specs that have leaked online include a QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixels) plus a 16MP main photo snapper and a 5MP selfie shooter.
