64 percent of customers pre-ordered the Galaxy S7 edge model

Samsung hopes to sell many Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones this year, but we don't believe it expects record-breaking sales.

The South Korean company announced last week at MWC 2016 that Samsung Galaxy S7 was likely to sell much better than the Galaxy S6, or at least, it hoped that its forecast would be accurate.

The latest Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge flagship smartphones are already available for pre-order, and some customers have received their device earlier than expected.

Well, it looks like it's only been a week since both devices were made available for purchase and pre-orders might have already reached record-breaking numbers.

Although Samsung hasn't yet announced any numbers, (in)famous leakster Eldar Murtazin claims “pre-orders for Galaxy S7 beat records everywhere, including Russia.”

According to him, no less than 64 percent of the total numbers of pre-orders were made for Samsung Galaxy S7 edge while 36 percent preferred the flat Galaxy S7.

Dual-curved display smartphone market is finally mature?

If that turns out to be true, it might be that the market for smartphones with dual-curved displays finally makes its exit from the niche category. Thanks to many other handset makers adopting the technology, this market should mature in the next couple of years.

Industry analysts claim Samsung sold around 35 million Galaxy S6 units in 2016, which isn't a high at all considering the Xiaomi Mi5 has more than 17 million registrations for its first sale.

Could it be that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will sell better than its predecessors? We're pretty sure that Samsung will come forward with an official statement if it proves that the number of Galaxy S7/S7 edge pre-orders is unusually high.

In the meantime, let's take Murtazin's claim as a mere possibility that might or might not be confirmed by Samsung. Have you pre-ordered your Samsung flagship smartphone yet? Which one did you choose: Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge?
