The update is now live in Australia for most users

It's been about a week since Google released the December security patch and many handset makers have already started to implement the fixes in the update for some of their flagship smartphones.

As always, Samsung is among the first companies to release the update, but for the time being the update is only available to Galaxy S7 edge users.

However, the South Korean company has a habit of making these updates available to other smartphones progressively during a month.

According to a new report, the December security patch is now available for download to Galaxy S7 edge users in Australia.

We believe it's only available for the unlocked version of the smartphone, but carrier-branded Galaxy S7 edge units might start getting the update very soon as well.

As far as the changes go, since there's no official changelog available yet, there's no telling what other improvements or new features Samsung might have included aside from the December security patch. In fact, we don't even know if the handset maker has added any of these things.

It's also worth noting that the update is now pushed OTA (over the air), so if you live in Australia you should receive a notification on your Galaxy S7 edge. You can also check for the update manually by heading to Settings / About phone / Update software.

This could be the last update the Galaxy S7 edge receives before Samsung starts pushing the long-awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update.

The South Korean company is already testing the Nougat update through it Galaxy Beta Program, which is available in the UK and United States, as well as a few other countries.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge owners who have been accepted in the beta program have already received three Android Nougat beta builds, which contained lots of new features and improvements.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Samsung announced that both the Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 would be upgraded directly to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It remains to be seen when exactly this will happen, though everything points to an early 2017 release.
