Samsung is known to release special editions of its flagship smartphones, and the latest is the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition. The device was announced just yesterday, and it seems quite fitting for the South Korean giant to make such an offering, considering that it is a sponsor of the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Yesterday, Samsung announced the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition and mentioned that the company would be offering 12,500 smartphones to all Olympians, together with Gear IconX, which are Bluetooth headphones. The company also announced that it would be shipping 2,016 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition smartphones on July 18, 2016.

Now, it seems that Samsung is making the handset available for pre-order on its website in Germany. Its price is quite high, namely €880 or $971, but it’s understandable, considering that the company is only offering 2,016 Olympic Edition smartphones. The device will be available in multiple markets, including Germany, China, Korea, Brazil, and the US.

The Olympic Edition will come with a textured limited edition box, imprinted with an individual identification number. The specs on the Olympic Edition are the same as on the S7 edge, namely a 5.5-inch curved Super AMOLED QHD display and Snapdragon 820 processor. It has IP68 certification and comes with a fingerprint scanner.

The smartphone also comes with 4GB of RAM and has 32GB of internal storage. Battery capacity reaches 3,600mAh, and a 12MP rear camera is also packed. Front camera capabilities reach 5MP, and the smartphone runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.

The Olympic Edition comes with a revamped design that incorporates the official Rio 2016 Olympic colors and has pre-loaded themed wallpapers inside.

Just recently, Samsung released the Batman-themed Galaxy S7 edge in certain markets, and the phone’s price went as high as $5,000 (€4,400) on eBay.
