14 DAY TRIAL // With Galaxy S7 edge, Samsung stepped up its game and has finally made the so-called “edge panel” more useful for those owning the smartphone.
The South Korean company took to heart users’ feedback requesting for larger interaction space on the edge panel and introduced this new feature in the Galaxy S7 edge.
Before going into more details, keep in mind that some of the advanced features that are coming inside the Galaxy S7 edge will be available on the Galaxy S6 edge as well once Android 6.0 Marshmallow update arrives.
First of all, Samsung doubled the width of the edge panel, so it's now sized at around 550 pixels. Due to the larger size, users can now add shortcuts to up to 10 applications on the edge panel. Not only that, but the edge panel supports folders, so you can sneak in as many shortcut apps as you want in those folders.
Beside the Apps edge, you now have the Tasks edge where you can set up your most frequently accessed functions of the phone, such as the front camera that will allow you to take a quick selfie, or the SMS app to text to your friends.

The People edge has been enhanced as well with a few tweaks and visual improvements, but you will be able to interact with your contacts the same way as before.
There also a Content edge specifically designed for developers who wish to create content for the Galaxy S edge smartphones. You can have Yahoo News, Yahoo Sport, Weather or any other content that you're interested in displayed on this panel.
Last but not least, the utility edge called Quick tools contains some useful functions like a ruler, compass and torchlight. The latter will also allow users to adjust the level of brightness, which should be quite in handy.
From the Settings menu, you can choose where you want the edge panel to appear, on the left or right side of the smartphone. You can also turn on and off any of the panels mentioned earlier, and you can set the level of transparency of the edge panel and size (small, medium, large).
