LG rep claims this feature is available in their flagship

Two of the most anticipated flagship smartphones announced this month, LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7, face each other in a not so silent war where the last standing will be glorified for the months to come.

Joke aside, it appears that one of the most controversial features included in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, adoptable storage has been taken into account by the handset makers for their flagships.

Adoptable storage allows users to install apps and games on memory cards instead of stuffing everything in the phone's internal memory. Without adoptable storage, you can only store photos, video, and documents on the memory card.

However, once you enable adoptable storage on your smartphone, you are not allowed to pull out the memory card if you want to keep using some of the apps installed.

Another advantage of the new feature is the fact that Android 6.0 Marshmallow encrypts the memory card so that it can only be used in that device. One adoptable storage is enabled so that SD card can't be read by another smartphone.

Adoptable storage has some disadvantages as well, such as the fact that once it's enabled, it might reduce the read speed of the system. The internal memory of a smartphone is much faster than microSD cards, so some users might not be content with this downside.

Samsung confirms the move, LG says otherwise

Well, it looks like Samsung has skipped this feature from the Galaxy S7. Adoptable storage is not available in Galaxy S7, so you can only store your pictures and videos on the memory card.

AndroidCentral reported a few days ago that they spent some time with LG G5 and found that this flagship doesn't include adoptable storage.

While Samsung has already confirmed the information saying that they did it as not to confuse customers, LG had an entirely different answer.

According to a report from TechInsider, LG public relations representative Monica Levy says the G5 does come with adoptable storage feature, “Happy to inform you that LG's newest flagship does support Android's adoptable storage feature.”

We'll probably get a confirmation when the first reviews of LG G5 emerge online, but we will have to wait quite a few weeks until then.

Perhaps the South Korean company will come forward with another statement to clarify this for customers interested in adoptable storage feature.
