A fragment from a bomb was intercepted by the phone

Samsung's latest high-end Galaxy smartphones coated with Corning Gorilla Glass offer them enough protection in case of accidental drops or scratches.

But these devices are more solid than we would have expected, and we're glad to report that they can save one's life on the unfortunate occasion of a terrorist attack, for example.

The recent terrorist attacks in Paris left hundreds of wounded and more than 120 people dead, but a certain Samsung Galaxy S6 edge managed to keep the death toll lower by saving one man's life.

Sylvester is a young Frenchman, who was hanging around outside Stade de France during the exhibition football match between France and Germany.

The game had already started for 10-15 minutes when the first suicide attacker triggered the bomb from a total of three detonated in various places in Paris.

Corning Gorilla Glass 4 is to "blame" and a large chunk of luck

A bomb fragment instantly hit Sylvester, and it would have probably increased the death toll number had it not been for the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge that he kept with him. Even though his Samsung smartphone took the brunt of the attack, he was still injured lightly.

Samsung Galaxy S6 edge features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 coating, one of the sturdiest types of glass used to protect smartphones. This is likely the main reason the smartphone could withstand the direct hit of a bomb fragment and save Sylvester's life.

Unfortunately, smartphones couldn't save more people in the Paris attacks, but it's refreshing to know that from time to time someone gets lucky and that technology not meant for this purpose can save lives in these situations.

We've attached the original video where Sylvester tells his story and how his Samsung Galaxy S6 edge saved his life. Even though it's not in English, we believe it's easy enough to figure it out what he says.
