It's hard to believe that Galaxy S5 will be among the first smartphones that Samsung will update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but we can safely assume that it will be in the second wave of devices to receive the upgrade.

Since the first smartphones won't get the update until late January or early February, Samsung Galaxy S5 owners still have a few months to wait for Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

But not if you're lucky enough to own one of the few Galaxy S5 smartphones that have just received the update by mistake.

According to a new report by SamMobile, one Galaxy S5 owner claims his smartphone has just received an OTA update from Samsung which is tagged as Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, the latest version of the mobile platform.

There aren't any other reports that Samsung has somehow started the rollout of the update, so we must assume that this is just a fortunate accident.

Beta builds are already available for Galaxy S6 and S6 edge

Another piece of information confirming that this was merely a mistake from Samsung's part is the content of the official changelog.

One line in the changelog mentions the update includes the Android security patch from January 1, 2016, which couldn't have been released yet since we're still in December.

While Google may have already informed OEMs about any bugs they may have discovered in the last couple of weeks, a patch hasn't been released yet.

That being said, we don't expect other Galaxy S5 owners to report the arrival of the update at least for two months.

However, those who own Samsung's last year flagship smartphone can take a look at what Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow brings into the mix in the video embedded below.

Let's hope Samsung will bring Android 6.0 Marshmallow to as many Galaxy smartphones as possible next year. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
