The Samsung Galaxy Note makes little sense right now

Samsung has already skipped one Galaxy Note generation, and while the fanbase out there hoped the company would refresh the device in 2022, it looks like this makes almost no sense.

This is because the recently launched Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with all the bells and whistles you normally expect on a Note, almost replacing it entirely.

The signature S Pen support was already feeling at home on the Ultra, but starting this year, it actually has its own place in the smartphone. In other words, the Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with an integrated S Pen, just like the good-old Note always did.

While it’s not known if Samsung wants to kill off the Note series for good (the company previously suggested a new model could actually launch at a later time), all these improvements make a very good case for going all-in on the Galaxy S22 Ultra anyway.

The demise of the Note

And Samsung can’t help but highlight just how good of a Note replacement the new S22 Ultra has become.

“Samsung Electronics today unveiled Galaxy S22 Ultra, merging the best of two smartphone legacies — the unrivaled power of the Note series and the pro-grade camera and performance of the S series — to set a new standard for premium smartphones. Featuring a built-in S Pen, advanced Nightography and video capabilities, and battery life that lasts over a day, Galaxy S22 Ultra is the most powerful Ultra device Samsung has ever created,” the company said in a press release.

“For the first time ever, Note users’ favorite built-in S Pen is coming to an S series device — and it’s the fastest, most responsive S Pen we’ve ever made. With 70% lower latency you can write and draw more naturally on your S22 Ultra’s expansive screen, and explore apps in new ways. With S Pen, the S22 Ultra becomes more than a phone. It embraces the legacy of the Note while opening up new ways to be creative and get things done.”

So right now, it all seems to be just a matter of time until Samsung confirms the obvious. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the long-term bet for the company, and the Note will just be a cool device so many people loved.
