The no-charger strategy has finally become a thing

An idea that Apple first introduced with the debut of the iPhone 12 is now an approach that everybody is using: most phones are being sold without a charger, you just have to purchase one separately.

The recently announced Galaxy S21 FE makes no exception, as Samsung isn’t offering such an accessory in the box. Of course, given the device comes with USB-C, there’s a chance you already have a compatible charger around.

But on the other hand, if you want to take full advantage of the 25W Super Fast Charge system, you may still need a new charger sold separately by Samsung.

Android 12 out of the box

In the last few weeks, I’ve seen all kinds of rumors regarding the version of Android to be installed on the Galaxy S21 FE. While some people said Samsung considered Android 11 with the update to Android 12 in the first quarter of 2022, it looks like the company managed to get the new OS ready in time for the launch of the device.

So the Galaxy S21 FE comes with Android 12 out of the box, with users being provided with the new One UI 4.0 version that other high-end Samsung devices are getting as we speak.

“Thanks to Samsung’s intuitive One UI 4, you can design your ideal mobile experience — one that’s uniquely suited to your needs and allows you to express who you are, securely. Packed with deeper customization options and stronger privacy controls, you get to call the shots. With expanded capabilities, your home screens, icons, notifications, wallpapers, and more can all be reimagined,” Samsung said in today’s announcement.

The device is already available for pre-order in the majority of markets, with the first units to ship on January 11. The Galaxy S21 FE doesn’t yet have an ETA for the United States.
