The days when Samsung needed weeks or even months to ship monthly security updates to its devices are long gone, as the South Koreans are now moving much faster to update its fleet of smartphones.

The living proof is the latest security patch, which went live for the Galaxy S20 only a few days after Google officially published the update for the Pixel series.

In other others, if you have a Samsung Galaxy S20, there’s a chance the January 2021 security patch is already available for your devices.

The new firmware updates are G981U1UES1CTL5, G981U1OYM1CTL5, and G981U1UES1CTL5 for Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra, respectively, and they include the January 2021 security patch level.

The update comes as a 235MB package, and right now, it’s not clear if Samsung has added any custom improvements for its devices or not. However, it comes with the same security improvements as the Pixel update, so you are obviously recommended to install it as soon as possible.

Galaxy S21 is just around the corner

Samsung’s January 2021 update for the Galaxy S20 comes only a few days before the company rolled out the Galaxy S21, an improved generation of devices expected to come with bigger changes, including even support for the S Pen on the Ultra model.

Samsung wants to discontinue the Galaxy Note lineup, and part of this transition is adding some of its features to the Galaxy S series. Support for the stylus is one essential part of the experience with a Note, so Samsung wants to bring it to the Galaxy S21 Ultra as soon as this year.

The last Note is expected to go live in the summer, after which the company would focus entirely on S Pen capabilities for other models, including the S lineup.
