Samsung drills holes in screen for the new-generation model

Samsung will take the wraps off the Galaxy S10 next month and a photo that’s making the rounds right now provide us with the first live look at the larger model carrying the Plus branding.

This picture that was published on reddit by what’s believed to be a Samsung employee shows the alleged Galaxy S10+ that is expected to come with two different front-facing cameras.

As you can see in the leaked image, the device does boast holes drilled in the screen for the two cameras, though by the looks of things, the hole itself is pretty massive.

While many describe the hole as a different kind of notch because, after all, it still eats up the available screen estate, someone else in the same reddit discussion, who claims they are working for Samsung and using a Galaxy S10+ too, this approach is much better.

Fingerprint sensor in the screen

Describing the device, they say the Galaxy S10+ is nearly the same size as the Note 9, but a little bit lighter. The Note 9 measures 161.9 x 76.4 x 8.8 mm (6.37 x 3.01 x 0.35 inches) and tips the scales at 201 grams.

The redditor, who uses the ActuallyWorkOnBixby nickname, says the differences versus the previous generations aren’t huge and the hole itself isn’t really that intrusive.

The post also confirms the fingerprint sensor embedded into the glass, as the Galaxy S10+ is expected to give up on the reader placed on the back for this new design.

“Though face recog is usually faster, and it's a little hard to find the spot with the sensor when the UI doesnt guide you to it from the lockscreen,” the post reads.

Needless to say, since it’s impossible to verify how accurate these details are, a certain amount of skepticism is definitely recommended. The Galaxy S10 lineup will be announced on February 20 and sales are projected to kick off in early March.
