Earlier this year, Samsung launched the so-called Galaxy Book as its latest attempt at the Windows 10 device market, and together with it, the company also introduced Samsung Flow, a new application that makes it possible to easily log in to the laptop with a Galaxy phone.

While the application is currently compatible with Samsung Windows 10 devices exclusively, the company now plans to release it for all Windows 10 PCs, making it possible for owners of Galaxy phones to unlock their devices effortlessly.

Samsung Flow needs to be running on both the smartphone and the Windows 10 PC to work correctly and it currently supports Android Marshmallow or newer devices, including the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, S6 and S6 Edge, Note 5, A5, and other models.

Secure authentication with the fingerprint

With Samsung Flow, users can authenticate on their PCs with the fingerprint sensor on the smartphone, while also benefitting from other features, such as notification sync.

On the other hand, notification synchronization with Android devices was already available on Windows 10 with the help of Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant that needs to be configured and running on both PCs and Android smartphones with the same account.

“Samsung Flow is a software product that enables a seamless, secure, connected experience across your devices. You can authenticate your Tablet/PC with your smartphone, share content between devices, and sync notifications from your smartphone to your Tablet/PC. You can also turn on the smartphone's mobile hotspot to keep your Tablet/PC connected,” Samsung’s description of the app points out.

At this point, the Samsung Flow app is already available in the Windows Store, but it can only be downloaded on Samsung Windows 10 devices. It’s not yet known when the company plans to release the app for everyone, but we’re guessing it shouldn’t take too long before this happens.
