This version could be limited to certain markets

Samsung will take the wraps off the new Galaxy Note 9 in early August, and as we get closer to the official unveiling date, more information regarding its specs make the rounds.

The most recent rumor points to the storage versions that Samsung is going to offer, with Twitter handle @Samsung_News_ indicating that the South Korean firm could upgrade its phablet to 512 GB.

This is without a doubt a welcome change that makes sense given that users need more storage for all their files, but until now, tech companies in the mobile market have adopted different strategies.

Apple, which is currently the top Samsung rival, is also increasing the amount of storage available on its devices, but at the same time, the company also bets big on the cloud. This means Apple is encouraging its customers to store files in iCloud as an alternative to the traditional local storage, at the same time focusing on improvements that could make this offering more compelling.

Without enough storage for all their files and without microSD card support, Apple users are more or less forced to embrace the cloud alternative.

Launch planned for early August

Samsung, on the other hand, is offering microSD card support on its flagship phones, and with the release of the Galaxy Note 9, it could reach a new milestone in terms of local storage.

But according to the cited source, there's a chance that the 512 GB version of the Galaxy Note 9 would only be available in select countries like Korea, China, and others. Samsung has been embracing this strategy for quite a while, making higher-spec versions of its top devices available only in certain markets, but depending on the demand for the 512 GB version of the Note 9, the model could be brought to other countries as well.

Expect the Galaxy Note 9 to see daylight sometime in the first two weeks of August during an event in New York. Press invites should be sent out in July.
