Information on the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 continues to surface, and the latest points to Android M instead of Android N and an iris scanner on the device that’s expected to see the light of day in a few months.

It seems that the Galaxy Note 7 might actually arrive with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 after all. The news comes from Napidroid, a website from Hungary, which has posted an image of the user agent profile of Galaxy Note 7 model SM-N930A showing that the device is running Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.

Google is expected to unveil the Android N this summer, but the specific date is unknown at this point since the version is still in developer preview phase, and it might take some time until it is released. In fact, Google has yet to announce the official name of the upcoming Android OS version.

Speaking of official names, the next Galaxy Note device is expected to be dubbed 7, which implies that the series would be skipping one number. Another leak that seems to point to the 7 moniker on the upcoming device appeared today, when SamMobile posted an image showing the number 7 and reading “Note the Next Galaxy.” While the picture is from unofficial sources, other rumors from yesterday also seem to corroborate the idea that the Note 7 will be the next handset in the series.

Still, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will surely receive an update to Android N, possibly by the end of the year or in early 2017.

The Galaxy Note 7 could actually come with an iris scanner

The Galaxy Note 7 is expected to pack a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 823 chipset with 6GB of RAM, a 12MP rear camera, and 64GB or 128GB of expandable storage. It should have IP68 certification and possibly an iris scanner.

A screenshot of some beta firmware has leaked today on PriceRaja, hinting that the upcoming device might actually sport an iris scanner, which would be an exciting addition to an already highly anticipated device.

Samsung is expected to make an official announcement on the Galaxy Note 7 on August 2, but until then, more information is bound to surface.
