Unless Samsung and T-Mobile run a test program for Android 6.0 Marshmallow that is limited to a certain number of Galaxy Note 5 owners.
The US-based carrier has yet to officially announce the availability of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Samsung Galaxy Note 5, but at least one customer received the OTA (over the air) update.
According to XDA Forum user danon.brown, Android 6.0 Marshmallow has just arrived on its T-Mobile-branded Galaxy Note 5. He also provided some screenshots for your viewing pleasure, so there's no doubt that he's telling the truth.
A larger rollout could happen in the next few weeks
Since this is an official Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update for Galaxy Note 5, other T-Mobile customers should start receiving the upgrade as well.
But how is it possible for someone who owns a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow update at T-Mobile?
“I was rooted earlier today running locos v3. Had some issues and Odin back to coi5. Tried to update thinking it would go to j5 and got Marshmallow,” explains dannon.brown.
He also mentioned that he wasn't rooted when he received the update, so if you plan on upgrading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the only way to receive the OTA from T-Mobile is to avoid having your Galaxy Note 5 rooted.
There's also one other possibility that allowed dannon.brown to update its Galaxy Note 5 to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Since he lost his phone's IMEI, the OTA system didn't know what update to send to the device and decided to go for the newest one.
Apparently, Samsung and T-Mobile has already uploaded Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the OTA system, so it should be coming for everyone very soon.
