Samsung’s new phablets will still rely on small batteries

In just a few hours, Samsung will take the stage in New York during its Unpacked event in order to unveil the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Edge S6+ flagship phablets.

Thanks to the various leaks coming to us lately, we already have a pretty good idea what the phones will end up looking like and what specs they will bring to the table.

While we’re pretty excited to see the new devices make a debut into the wild, we also have a few doubts. It seems that Samsung hasn’t learned a lot from the Galaxy S6, which bundled a skimpy 2,550 mAh battery that provided a less than desirable battery life.

Initially, word on the street had it that the Galaxy Note 5 would come to the market with a 4,100 mAh battery, which seemed more acceptable and gave us hope that the phablet would be able to last more.

Samsung's new phablets will probably last too little

But it soon became apparent that this wouldn’t be the case. As we’re waiting for the big event, the leakster of all leaksters @evleaks has posted another of his revealing tweets, saying that the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ will both rely on 3,000 mAh power houses.

The tweet also mentions that the new Galaxies will be able to provide users with up to 21 hours of talk time and up to 336 hours (14 days) of standby time. Naturally, we’ll have to take the info with a grain of salt until Samsung makes official these two new phones.

Like us, you’re probably a little bit disappointed after hearing this information. Since the new phablets both come with QHD displays (2560 x 1560 pixels), they will certainly hog on the battery life. Even with the energy-efficient Exynos 7420 on board, we don’t see the newcomers performing any better than the Galaxy S6 and its edgy counterpart.

Stay tuned to find out more about the new phablet duo on August 13. We’ll be covering the event in order to bring you all the information about the two new Samsung devices.
