We reported a few days ago about a new affordable Android smartphone coming from Samsung, the Galaxy J1 2016 Edition.

Well, it looks like the smartphone has been silently introduced in Dubai where it will sell for around $135 outright, GSMArena reports.

The sequel to the Galaxy J1, the most affordable Android smartphone launched by Samsung, comes with a few improvements over the previous model.

For example, instead of the 4.3-inch display, Samsung added a slightly larger 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

On the inside, the smartphone comes equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor, which is significantly more powerful than the 1.2GHz dual-core Spreadtrum CPU included in the Galaxy J1 launched last year.

A significant improvement over the previous model

The Exynos chipset is paired with a Mali-T720 graphics processing unit, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

These are among the improvements included in the Galaxy J1 2016 since the previous model comes with either 512MB or 768MB RAM and just 4GB of storage inside.

However, there are some specs that remain the same, such as the 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as the modest 2-megapixel selfie camera in the front.

Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 comes with 4G LTE support and a decent 2,050 mAh battery. It ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box but don't expect a Marshmallow upgrade.

Also, TouchWiz UI runs on top of Lollipop platform. Other connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS support.

Although Samsung launched the Galaxy J1 2016 in just one country, we expect the low-end Android smartphone to arrive in other regions in the next couple of weeks.
