Samsung is one of the few companies that continue to launch clamshell phones. Moreover, the South Korean company is also one of the fewest to out smartphones that feature a flip form factor.

An unannounced Samsung SM-W2016 has been spotted recently at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission, a new report confirms.

The SM-W2016 feature a clamshell body and runs Android operating system, which is why we believe the device will be launched as Samsung Galaxy Golden 3.

This would be the third year that Samsung releases a Galaxy Golden smartphone on the market, though the other two hit shelves in October or early November.

We expect the Galaxy Golden 3 to arrive on the market by the end of this year, but the phone's model number does seem to suggest that it's on track for a 2016 release.

The good news is that, due to the listing at TENAA, we are now able to confirm some of the Galaxy Golden 3 specs.

Is there a market for clamshell smartphones?

The most intriguing is the 2.1GHz octa-core processor, which hasn't been named yet. The powerful CPU is accompanied by 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, but there's no microSD card slot for memory expansion.

We also know Samsung Galaxy Golden 3 will sport a 3.9-inch internal and external displays that support HD (720p) resolution.

Keep in mind, though, that the same smartphone leaked a few weeks ago at GFXBench and the information suggested the clamshell would pack 4.6-inch HD display.

Since TENAA's information is the most accurate, let's say the Galaxy Golden 3 comes with smaller 3.9-inch HD displays.

Also, Samsung Galaxy Golden 3 will pack a 16-megapixel camera in the back while in the front it should feature a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera.

Last but not least, the clamshell comes preloaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, and it should offer 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with AGPS support.
