14 DAY TRIAL // Whenever a smartphone maker files a trademark application for a new device, it usually means that the new phone will be announced in the coming weeks. The latest reports show that Samsung has filed a trademark application for the name “Galaxy S8” with the USPTO.
The application was submitted late last week to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, but the same application might be filed in other countries soon, according to Galaxy Club.
The application mentions the “Galaxy S8” name, which leaves us wondering about the name of the second variant, rumored to be called the Galaxy S8 Plus, since it will supposedly have a larger display.

We already know that the Galaxy S8 will be launched in two variants, even though the application only mentions the standard model. In some cases, smartphone makers only patent the name of base models, which is said to be enough for a commercial launch.
The latest reports have shown that Samsung might announce the Galaxy S8 on March 29, during a dedicated event in New York City. The phone would hit shelves in the week starting April 17, but nothing is set in stone. Moreover, Samsung is said to have already showcased the Galaxy S8 to major carriers.
According to the information we gathered until now, the new phones will come with 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch AMOLED displays and fingerprint scanners under the screen. The display would be protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass coating, while the company is also said to launch a new Gear VR with the new flagship.
The Galaxy S8 will most likely retain the USB Type-C port and run Exynos 8895 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC, depending on the region. RAM capacity is said to reach 6GB with 64GB of internal storage. The phone will ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and incorporate the new Bixby voice assistant.
