Samsung is clearly the top supplier of AMOLED panels for smartphone use and is expected to maintain its leading status over the next few years. A new report by Digitimes shows that the company will increase its shipments of AMOLED displays by 114% until 2019.

The report highlights the fact that Samsung will see its shipments of AMOLED screens increased to 560 million units in 2019, a 114% raise compared to 2015.

The main client who will benefit from this move is Samsung Electronics, considering that it's currently the top client for Samsung Display. Samsung Electronics' demand reached 239 million AMOLED units in 2016 and is set to grow to 290 million units in 2019.

Samsung will be increasing AMOLED panel shipments to Apple

Samsung Display is said to supply AMOLED panels for Apple's iPhones projected to launch in 2017. Apple is expected to receive 40 million AMOLED panels units in 2017, 40 million more in 2018, and the shipment to the Cupertino-based giant is set to reach 120 million units in 2019.

Samsung will also maintain its supremacy among China-based smartphone vendors, with Vivo, Oppo, and Huawei Technologies having decided to implement AMOLED displays in their smartphones. Samsung Display will be shipping 150 million AMOLED panel units in 2019 to Chinese smartphone makers, up from 99 million in 2016.

Samsung Display is definitely the biggest manufacturer of smartphone-use AMOLED displays, but the company might start facing some competition in 2019 or 2020, considering that Japan Display, Sharp, and other companies are planning to enter the market of AMOLED panels.

A recent report also showed that Samsung planned to boost its OLED display production, before the release of the new iPhone in 2017. Samsung is said to invest $6.8 billion in the production capacity of OLED displays, and the company will be shipping 100 million 5.5-inch OLED displays to Apple starting 2017.
