Meanwhile, there’s no notification light on the S10

Embracing the Infinity O display with a punch-hole camera means Samsung had to ditch the front-facing LED notification light on the Galaxy S10.

Instead of this super-popular feature, the company came up with a cleverer approach: it implemented a camera ring notification light that turns on for a series of predefined actions, like when opening the selfie camera.

Many believed that this particular feature would also double as a notification light, which to be honest, makes perfect sense, and it also adds a modern touch to the device. And as a Samsung Care Ambassador confirmed not a long time ago, this was indeed the plan, with the South Korean firm planning to enable the feature in a future Galaxy S10 update.

Feature still on its way

But in a recent update to the original post, the same Ambassador says the update would land later than originally anticipated because Samsung delayed it. No specifics were provided on the reasons for the delay, but the message is clear: the update is still coming, only that no specific ETA is available for now.

“Turns out the release for this update has been delayed for some reason. We don’t know why, and don’t have access to that information from this end. I do believe the update is happening, as it was confirmed by a supervisor in the testing area after the Unpacked release event & afterward by a Samsung executive,” the update to the post reads.

In the meantime, there’s still no notification light on the Galaxy S10, and users must stick with the Always-On Display feature, which albeit being a super-useful feature, it just eats up too much battery on everyday use.

For now, the best advice you can get is not to hold your breath for this feature on the Galaxy S10, as Samsung seems to take its time to make it happen. If it makes it happen, that is.
