Samsung’s August event, which typically witnesses the introduction of a new-generation Galaxy Note, is now likely to bring us new-generation foldables, with the South Korean company likely to take the wraps off a new Galaxy Fold but also of a cheaper device that would bring this form factor to lower price points.

But as it turns out, there’s a good chance that in addition to smartphones, the August event would also include other important news, such as the unveiling of the new Galaxy Watch models.

According to a Korean report, Samsung could therefore unveil both the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch Active 4 in August, with these two devices to represent the company’s first steps into the Wear OS ecosystem.

Wear OS in, Tizen out

Samsung stepping away from Tizen is definitely surprising news for many people out there, especially because the company has invested big in this platform, not only on smartwatches but also for other categories of devices.

The Galaxy Watch 4 is expected to come in two different versions, namely 42mm and 46mm, while the Active 4 will come with 40mm and 42mm editions.

No other specifics are available right now, but there’s no doubt the transition to Wear OS is the big news of this release. At the same time, Samsung embracing Wear OS is also big news for Google, as the South Korean company would be the first truly big name using its platform for high-end smartwatches.

Google is likely to discuss the future of Wear OS at the upcoming annual developer event, but of course, you shouldn’t expect the company to discuss Samsung’s plans to adopt the platform.

For the time being, everything is still in the rumor stage, so you should take all the details with a pinch of salt until we hear more from other reliable sources.
