About one week has passed since Samsung announced its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, during an event in New York City. The two phones haven’t even been released yet, and there’s already talk about their successors.

Reports from Korea say that Samsung already started work on the successor to the recently announced Galaxy S8, much earlier than usual. Unnamed sources have revealed that Samsung already began producing key parts for the new device, including the display.

It seems that work on the new phone started six months ahead of schedule, because of the strengthened quality control process which followed last year’s Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

The report goes on to reveal that the upcoming Galaxy S9 will be available in two variants, one with a 5.8-inch screen and the other with a 6.2-inch display, just like on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ that were unveiled last month. Presumably, the two Galaxy S9 phones will have curved displays, unless Samsung decides to incorporate a flat screen on one of the models.

Details about the Galaxy Note 8 emerge

Samsung’s display team started developing screens for the Galaxy S9 late last month, while supply samples will be provided in mid-April. A month after the displays are supplied, modules and other key parts will be developed in phases, the report says.

Sources have also given some details about the Galaxy Note 8, confirming its codename “Great” and revealing that it will feature a 6.32-inch display, the largest screen on a Samsung premium smartphone. In addition, Samsung intends to embed a fingerprint scanner under the front glass, something that it didn’t achieve on the Galaxy S8 due to technical issues.

Information about the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 will surely surface soon, while the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are expected to see a worldwide release on April 21 and Samsung has ramped up production of the larger model to meet high demand.
