Both smartphones have their microUSB ports exposed

It's already common knowledge that both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are water resistant, as they both feature IP68 certification.

However, unlike the Galaxy S5 that has its microUSB protected by a rubber stripe, Samsung's new flagship smartphones have their ports exposed. But that shouldn't worry you too much since the South Korean company took every precaution to make its devices compliant with the IP68 rating.

Both Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are water resistant and T-Mobile did an unboxing of the smartphones underwater.

Still, even though there's no “don't try this at home” warning in regards to using these devices underwater, it's better to avoid that if you can help it.

The good news is the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge has been greatly sealed by Samsung, so you can even swim in the pool and take pictures with either of them.

Samsung Galaxy S7 passes the water pool test

Someone has already done that and the phone continues to work even after the water test. Keep in mind though that if you plan on using your Galaxy S7 underwater, you won't be able to recharge it for a while unless you're using wireless charging.

Apparently, since the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge USB ports are exposed, Samsung added some sort of a failsafe that should prevent the smartphones from being fried.

Thanks to the so-called moisture detection, you will get a pop-up error message when you insert the USB cable in the port if water is detected.

Some early Galaxy S7 owners who used their phones underwater report that even hours after they were dried, fast charging wouldn't work anymore.

There's one other issue that hasn't been clarified yet. We don't know what can happen if you keep your USB cable in the port even after you get the charging error message in case moisture is detected.
