The project is said to take elements from both games

A new rumor claims EA is working on a super-secret project that involves the Star Wars franchise. Well, it's not so secret anymore if it proves to be accurate, but if not for the two anonymous sources that offered their take on the project, we wouldn't have known about it.

Cinelinx reports that two sources claim to have knowledge about the return of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. The first source says EA is working on a remake of the original game launched back in 2003, but the second source has even spicier information about the project.

It looks like EA plans to take elements from both Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game and redesign the two stories to fit in the current canon. The content will be delivered in a single game that “isn't so much a remake, but a 'sequel' of sorts.” The 'sequel' aspect probably comes from the fact that the stories must be rewritten according to the most recent happenings in the Star Wars universe.

Last year, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed her company is working on “something” that involves the Knights of the Old Republic franchise, but she wasn't specific for obvious reasons. The new rumor comes in line with previous statements from Lucasfilm officials, but we wouldn't vouch for its accuracy just yet.

Even if Disney and EA wish to revive the Knights of the Old Republic at the moment, plans often change at the last minute, so we might learn in five or six years from now that the project was canceled due to various factors.

In fact, it's not the first time that a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic project is canceled. Last year, Chris Avellone the lead writer for the KOTOR series at that time, confirmed Obsidian was working on the third game pitch, but the game was eventually canceled.
