14 DAY TRIAL // Ring has recently announced that it’s pulling support for Windows 10 Mobile from its Ring Video Doorbell app, recommending mobile users to switch to Android or iOS instead.
On the good side, Ring says that support for Windows 10 will continue to be offered, but only PC users running the Fall Creators Update or newer versions would benefit from it.
“We're reaching out to let you know that the Ring App will no longer work on Windows 10 mobile devices after April 10, 2018. However, you can still monitor your home and review Ring videos with any desktop computers, laptops and tablets equipped with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Version 1709) or newer,” the company said in an email sent to users.
The current state of Windows 10 Mobile
The only way Windows 10 Mobile is making the news these days is after developers announce their departure from the platform because otherwise, there’s not much happening on Microsoft’s smartphone operating system.
The company confirmed in late 2017 that no new features and devices would be released for Windows 10 Mobile, as the operating system was pushed to maintenance mode. This means no other updates than security patches would be released until it reaches end-of-support in mid-2019.
While the transition from Windows phones to Android and iOS started a long time ago, Microsoft acknowledging the demise of its mobile strategy accelerated the switch, so Windows 10 Mobile is now very close to 0 percent market share.
Without a doubt, all these stories about developers pulling support for their Windows apps do nothing more than serve as living proof there’s no point in sticking with this dying operating system, so the few users who are still running Windows phones are expected to switch to Android and iOS very soon as well.
