Apple increasing battery repair prices by $20

Replacing the battery of an iPhone is something that so many people do for obvious reasons. Because batteries are degrading at a pace that would technically require getting a new iPhone faster than most people are willing to do this, installing a new unit is obviously the preferred way to go for quite a lot of customers.

Doing this, however, is going to cost you more, as Apple is increasing the price of battery replacements by as much as $20.

However, only the previous-generation iPhones are impacted, with 9to5mac reporting that owners of the iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 11, and iPhone X will have to pay $89 for a battery unit, up from the current price of $69 in the United States.

On the other hand, the battery replacement prices of the iPhone 14 generation will remain unchanged, so they will continue to cost $99 for all customers.

New prices to come into effect in March

Apple Care subscribers with a battery whose degradation level has dropped below 80 percent will continue to receive free servicing.

“We can replace your iPhone battery for a service fee. Our warranty doesn’t cover batteries that wear down from normal use. Your iPhone is eligible for a battery replacement at no additional cost if you have AppleCare+ and your product's battery holds less than 80 percent of its original capacity,” Apple explains.

The Cupertino-based tech giant reveals on its support site that the new battery prices will come into effect in March, at which point customers will be charged more to receive a new battery unit without a warranty.

“The current out-of-warranty battery service fee will apply until the end of February 2023. Effective March 1, 2023, the out-of-warranty battery service fee will be increased by $20 for all iPhone models prior to iPhone 14,” the company said.
