THQ Nordic has just announced a new game coming from the studio behind hits like Darksiders III and Remnant: From the Ashes, Gunfire Games. The game is called Chronos: before the Ashes and is slated for release on December 1 for PC, Google Stadia, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

The game is based on the VR-exclusive Chronos from Gunfire Games, which has been overhauled and optimized to work on all platforms mentioned above without the need for VR support. Chronos: Before the Ashes combines adventure game elements and RPG mechanics, and promises deep combat featuring a wide array of weapons, abilities, and powers.

Remnant: From the Ashes fans will be happy to know that Chronos is the prequel story of their favorite game. In Chronos: Before the Ashes, players take the role of a young hero, trying to save his home from an ancient evil.

Things become more hectic the moment players are sent to a mysterious labyrinth, full of both fearsome and mystic creatures, along with challenging puzzles. Combat in Chronos is unforgiving and brutal, but death is not the end in Gunfire Games' upcoming title. Each time the hero fails, he is cast out and must wait one year to return to the labyrinth, which means when you return, you'll be one year older.

At first glance, this might not sound that bad, but the older you get, the more important your wisdom about the arcane powers will become and the less nimble and quick you will be. The unique aging mechanic makes Chronos: Before the Ashes an interesting game to watch.

As players fail over and over again, they must adapt to their advancing age as they progress throughout the game. Basically, you'll be trading swiftness for magic, but that doesn't sound too bad at all. Fans of the genre can wishlist Chronos: Before the Ashes on Steam right now.
