Microsoft offers info on the future of Insider channels

Microsoft explains that the Dev channel in the Windows Insider program will be used mostly for trying out all kinds of ideas for the future of Windows, though this means that the new features becoming available for users won’t have a release date.

In fact, there’s not even a guarantee they would ever get the go-ahead in the first place, so if you just want to see what’s coming in the next Windows updates, the Releases Preview channel is the best place to be.

“The Release Preview Channel remains the best spot for previewing what’s coming to general customers soon,” Microsoft says.

Beta channel also getting a more important role

At the same time, Microsoft says the Beta channel will also let users preview what’s coming in the next Windows feature updates.

“The Beta Channel will be previewing experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first,” the company explains.

“Now’s a good time to start thinking about what Channel is best for you. We will soon be giving Insiders a window in which they will be able to switch from the Dev Channel to the Beta Channel. Stay tuned for details in the coming weeks.”

Microsoft is getting ready to release the very first feature update for Windows 11, and this time, the launch will come with pretty big news for users of this operating system. The company will release support for Android apps on the desktop as a public preview, all alongside a series of other improvements, including new taskbar tweaks and additional polishing for the operating system.
