Following last year’s recall of the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung was left with approximately 4 million smartphones with potential battery problems. Earlier this year, Samsung revealed its plans for the remaining Galaxy Note 7 units.

Some of the recalled Galaxy Note 7 smartphones will be refurbished and feature a smaller battery compared to the initial model. Indeed, the original Note 7 featured a 3,500mAh battery, while the refurbished variant will have a 3,200mAh juicer. Aside from this, the phone will also run Android 7.0 Nougat, while all of its other specs are expected to be the same as on last year’s Note 7 model.

Some reports suggested that the smartphone’s price tag would reach about $620, approximately $266 cheaper than the original Galaxy Note 7. However, recent reports from Samsung’s home country now suggest that the Note 7R could carry a price tag that’s 50% smaller than that of the initial model. This would mean that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 could be sold for about $443 in Korea.

Samsung hasn’t yet decided on the release schedule

A Samsung representative was quoted as saying that the Korean company hasn’t yet decided on the release schedule for the refurbished Galaxy Note 7R, but that the company plans to launch the smartphone before the Galaxy Note 8 arrives later this year.

Samsung’s next Galaxy Note flagship could be announced as early as August, considering that the Note 7 was released during the same month of last year. Still, local reports suggest that the Note 7R could arrive in late May or early June, after Samsung receives safety certification from the state-run National Radio Research Agency, a process that takes about one month.

For now, Samsung has yet to officially announce which country will receive the refurbished Galaxy Note 7, but the device is expected to arrive in Korea and Vietnam. Sadly, customers in the US and Canada won’t be able to get their hands on the device.
