User creates a refined version of the leaked Start menu

Long-time Windows users certainly remember that the Start menu has gone through a series of changes throughout the years, and after being removed in Windows 8, it just looks like this feature is here to stay in Windows 10.

Microsoft, however, is planning a series of refinements here and there, and a recently-leaked Windows 10 build provided us with an early glimpse into what the Start menu could end up looking like in a future update for the operating system.

While specifics aren’t yet available, it was believed that this Start menu was part of the Windows Lite experience, a slimmed down version of the OS built to compete against Chrome OS. The Start menu, however, could make its way to other Windows 10 versions, including the full release for PCs.

Microsoft hasn’t obviously discussed about the future of the Start menu, but reddit user MrZombieKiller redesigned the leaked version with his very own touches for a more modern and polished look.

Pros and cons

And the result isn’t by any means something that Microsoft should ignore, albeit some minor details here and there should be further fine-tuned.

For example, while live tiles are gone, and this is reportedly something that Microsoft is very keen on doing as well, the user profile picture at the top is unnecessary and takes too much space on the screen.

Of course, if Microsoft does decide to go for such a design, it has what it takes to further refine this Start menu design, and the company would really do itself a favor if it decides to check out the discussions generated by the concept.

For the time being, however, the Start menu won’t change much in Windows 10, albeit a more Chrome OS-like experience is something that is still on the table.
