One of the best gaming mouse on the market

Razer is mostly recognized for its expensive gaming accessories rather than durability. Many of the company's premium products fail the test of endurance after only a couple of years of use, but they're very good when they work as intended.

The Basilisk Ultimate mouse is a premium product, if not thanks to the many features it offers, at least due to the somewhat high price. Razer Basilisk Ultimate sells for $170 / £170 / €190, a much higher price than its main rival, the Logitech G502.

However, if you have the money and you're a Razer fan, the Basilisk Ultimate ticks all the boxes. It has a comfy form-factor and lots of customizable buttons that make it easier to play certain games. Razer Basilisk Ultimate isn't a large mouse, but I can definitely say that it's light at just 107g, which makes it a perfect on-the-go peripheral.

Design-wise, the Basilisk Ultimate looks good, but what makes it exceptional is the RGB lighting that you can customize to your liking. The mouse has no less than 14 lighting spots that illuminate in the darkness in one or more colors that you previously chose.

Another important thing worth adding is that the wireless charging dock that comes with the Razer Basilisk Ultimate does feature its own LED strip, which acts as a battery indicator. If the light is red, it means you need you to start charging the mouse until the light becomes green. The yellowish shades mean that you can still use it for several hours.

As I mentioned earlier, the Basilisk Ultimate has lots of programmable buttons, 11 to be precise. Each can become a shortcut for a certain action in your game. On top of that, the scroll wheel is also customizable in the sense that you can tune the resistance so that you can scroll smoother when needed. You set the smoothness of the scroll wheel from the dial underneath the mouse.

Razer Basilisk Ultimate has a focus + optical sensor that can handle movements of up to 650 inches per second and 50G acceleration. You can adjust the sensitivity of the mouse in 50 DPI increments up to 20,000. The optical switches inside the Razer Basilisk Ultimate are rated for up to 70 million clicks, which is quite a lot.

Unfortunately, you need the Synapse app installed to do some of the customizations. The app will save your profile's DPI settings, but it will not save your color settings to your profile. Synapse will also allow you to remap the buttons of the mouse if you wish.

Now, as far as battery life goes, Razer Basilisk Ultimate is rated for 100 hours of battery, but with the lights off. So, if you want more battery out of your mouse, you better not go crazy with those RGB lights. You can even help expand the battery by adjusting some settings in the Power tab in the Synapse app. For example, you can set the mouse to enter sleep mode if idle for a few minutes or low power mode if the battery level is below a certain percentage.

Conclusion

I had a blast using Razer's Basilisk Ultimate and if not for the prohibitive price, I would've certainly bought one for myself. Despite the fact that it does offer similar features, and even form factor, like the Logitech G502 at a much higher price, if you've any remorse if you decide to go for the Razer Basilisk Ultimate instead.

The Basilisk Ultimate is a great gaming mouse that certainly ticks all the boxes, except maybe the one concerning the price. If you don't care about that, I'd definitely suggest getting one or, if you prefer a lighter version, go for the Razer Viper Ultimate instead.
