Gamers will get access to Operators and a new map

The stream of post-launch downloadable content for Rainbow Six Siege was supposed to start flowing in January of this year, with the delivery of the new Operation Black Ice package, but the team at Ubisoft in charge of the multiplayer-focused shooter is now announcing that gamers will have to wait until February 2 to get access to some new maps and Operators.

The announcement comes from the official account of the game, but the studio is offering no clear reason for the fact that it has pushed it back from January 12.

It's important to note that until now Ubisoft has not offered a full look at the kind of new content that Operation Black Ice will bring to Rainbow Six Siege although the company has made it clear that each DLC drop will offer more options for gameplay.

Based on a leaked trailer, the player community is speculating that the new map is set on a yacht that has been caught in ice, offering a combat space with some interesting innovations when compared to the already available environments.

Two new operators are also supposed to be added for Rainbow Six Siege, but it's unclear to what counter-terrorist service they will be associated with and what their special abilities might be.

Ubisoft is also not saying whether it plans to deliver an update for the shooter when Operation Black Ice arrives to deal with issues that the community has been talking about and to improve the overall balance.

The DLC will be free to all those who own the title and gamers who bought the Season Pass will get the two new Operators without having to spend any in-game currency.

Rainbow Six Siege will be expanded all through the year

For the rest of the player community, the launch of Operation Black Ice means that they will have to grind a little to get access to the new characters and try them out, and they also have the options to spend some real-world money to get access to some new cosmetic options.

The same template for DLC for Rainbow Six Siege will be applied all through 2016 as Ubisoft aims to make sure that its multiplayer-focused tactical shooter remains interesting for players.

The development team has also suggested that during the year gamers might get more details about a potential future installment in the franchise that will focus more on a single-player story.

Rainbow Six Siege is the result of a development process that started after the Patriots concept was shelved by Ubisoft and that's why no complex narrative is attached to the title.

The game allows teams of five players to face off against one another on a variety of maps, with planning and teamwork required to win.

The experience offered by Rainbow Six Siege is a very tense one, especially when two solid groups are involved, but the lack of single player and the need to grind to unlock content has meant that many fans of the franchise have not been interested in the new installment.
