The development team at Ubisoft in charge of Rainbow Six Siege is announcing that a new major update, labeled 1.2, is now out for the PC version of Rainbow Six Siege and will also be deployed on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One on January 14.

The biggest changes for the multiplayer-driven shooter are for the hit registration, which is at the moment updated 60 times per second to make sure that the game is as realistic as possible during the firefights.

Rainbow Six Siege players can also choose their data center, with the feature first offered on the PC and set to arrive for home consoles in the coming weeks, allowing them to decide which region they want to play in based on personal preference.

When it comes to matchmaking, the Ubisoft team is saying that all Player versus Player engagements should benefit from evenly matched teams and a new feature means that pre-made groups are more likely to fight other similar teams.

Fans of Rainbow Six Siege should also experience improved connectivity and better estimates for waiting time when they are in a lobby, although this side of the game is still being improved.

A full list of the gameplay tweaks made to the shooter can be seen by clicking on the button at the end of this article, although the developers are making it clear that not all the fixes are listed because of the big number of changes they have made.

Ubisoft has already said that it is using both data gathered from matches and feedback from players to decide on some top priorities associated with the future of Rainbow Six Siege, which will continue to be updated over the year.

Operation Black Ice arrives on February 2

All those playing will be able to get access to one new map, which seems to be focused around a yacht caught up in frozen seas, and to two new Operators, although their identities, skills or affiliation have not yet been revealed.

The content included in Operation Black Ice for Rainbow Six Siege is free to all those who play the game, with Season Pass holders able to play with the two new characters as soon as the update is out on February 2.

The rest of the community will have to grind for in-game currency to unlock them, and Ubisoft is also introducing some cosmetic options that can only be obtained by using real world money.

Operation Black Ice is just the first in a list of downloadable content for Rainbow Six Siege, which is supposed to be offered all through the year, with a focus on expanding the number of maps and Operatives that the game features.

Ubisoft has also suggested that it is already working on a future title in the series that will focus on the single-player component that is largely missing from the current installment.

At the moment the focus is on Rainbow Six Siege and how the multiplayer shooter can be improved in 2016.
