The new OS version said to enter development next month

Microsoft hasn’t even completed the rollout of Windows 11, and the company might be planning to start the work on Windows 12.

This is according to a report from German site Deskmodder, which reports via an alleged Microsoft insider that the development of the next version of Windows could kick off in March.

Clearly, the report cannot be verified since the source hasn’t been named, so it’s hard to tell if there’s any truth behind it or not. However, Microsoft is already working on lots of improvements for Windows 11, so don’t be too surprised if the company ends up rolling out a new version of the operating system instead of bundling them all in a new update for the existing version.

The Windows 11 rollout

If this report is true and Windows 12 is scheduled to enter the development next month, you shouldn’t expect this OS version to see the daylight this year.

Microsoft is still planning to complete the rollout of Windows 11 in the first half of the year, with the second to bring us a major update.

“The upgrade offer to Windows 11 is beginning to enter its final phase of availability putting us ahead of our initial plan of mid-2022. Windows 11 is driving increased engagement with people spending 40% more time on their Windows 11 PC vs Windows 10. The multitasking and productivity advantages of the Windows PC are being used more than ever with nearly half of Windows 11 users using the new Snap Layouts,” Panos Panay said recently.

At the end of the day, it’s better not to take anything for granted right now, especially as this Windows 12 rumor cannot be verified. Microsoft will obviously remain tight-lipped on everything related to this subject, as Windows 11 is the company’s main focus right now.
