Microsoft is making big changes to its policy

Microsoft is trying out something new with Quantum Break for the PC platform and intends to make a Windows Store exclusive.

The major feature separating the Xbox One console from PlayStation 4 is the connection of the former with the PC. Microsoft controls both the Xbox and PC market, and that opens up some opportunities. Not all users are happy about this, but this is what's happening right now.

Microsoft wants to link the two platforms in a way that hasn't been done before. Quantum Break will be available on the PC for free if you pre-order it for the Xbox One. Also, rumor has it that some other Xbox One exclusive games like Gears of War 4, Forza Motorsport 6, Horizon 3 are also coming to the PC.

Exclusive to Windows 10

When Microsoft announced Quantum Break for the PC, the company also underlined the fact that it would be available only for Windows 10 systems and it was going to be Direct X 12-only. This is a major leap and it severely reduces the consumer base, but there is more.

Thanks to a DualShockers report, we now know that Major Nelson said during a podcast that there wouldn't be a Steam release of the game and that it would be available only in the Windows Store.

Quantum Break won't be the first game to be released only in the Windows Store. Lionhead Studios' Fable Legends was announced as a Windows Store exclusive, but, at least, Quantum Break has a clear launch date.

From the looks of it, this kind of tie-in with the PC platform is going to be a common occurrence for Xbox One-only titles. Microsoft wants to distance itself from Sony, and taking advantage of the PC is one way of doing that.

Quantum Break is scheduled to be launched on April 5 for Xbox One and PC.
