After announcing its new technology that allows for wireless charging of smartphones with metal cases, Qualcomm unveiled yet another technological breakthrough in the mobile phone business.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Smart Protect is a new technology embedded in Snapdragon 820 processor, which provides real-time, on-device machine learning designed to support accurate and effective detection of zero-day malware threats.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset will be the first to support the new technology, but others will follow beginning next year.

According to the chipset maker, Snapdragon Smart Protect is the first application to make use of Qualcomm Zeroth technology, enhancing conventional anti-malware solutions.

Snapdragon Smart Protect complements the current signature-based anti-malware solutions by analyzing and identifying new threats prior to new signature updates.

Smartphone manufacturers will be able to make use of the new technology

Qualcomm also states that OEMs and mobile anti-malware application providers will be able to use Snapdragon Smart Protect API's in order to perform analysis, providing users with real-time info of identified threats.

The company also confirmed that the Snapdragon Smart Protect is a feature included in the Qualcomm Haven security suite, which also provides consumers with Qualcomm SecureMSM technology, a hardware-based security protection technology designed to improve Snapdragon CPUs' resistance to targeted attacks.

Qualcomm Haven also offers consumers Snapdragon Sense ID 3D fingerprint technology, Snapdragon StudioAccess content protection and SafeSwitch technology.

Last but not least, Qualcomm announced that the new Snapdragon Smart Protect technology will be available in consumer devices sometime in 2016, at the same time that the Snapdragon 820 processor will become available on the market.

“With consumers storing more personal information on their devices, data leakage incidents and malware are on the rise. Snapdragon Smart Protect supports deep on-device monitoring for nearly instantaneous notifications of detected privacy violations and malicious activity while also providing great system performance and battery life,” said Asaf Ashkenazi, director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
