Qualcomm has already introduced the Snapdragon 820, its most powerful chipset to date, but not all of its features have been unveiled yet.

Today, the chip maker has revealed the last piece of the puzzle by releasing new information about the modem that will come inside the Snapdragon 820 chipset.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820 chipset will feature the most advanced modem they have ever created. The X12 LTE modem is said to pack breakthrough LTE and Wi-Fi technologies.

It looks like, on compatible networks, the Snapdragon 820 with X12 LTE will support LTE category 12, which allows for download speeds of up to 600 Mbps. This is 33% faster than the peak download speeds of the previous X10 LTE modem embedded inside the Snapdragon 810 chipset.

The fastest LTE modem ever created by the company

On top of that, the X12 LTE modem supports LTE Category 13, boasting uplink speeds of up to 150 Mbps. This is triple the peak upload speeds supported by X10 LTE in the Snapdragon 810.

Moreover, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 supports the newest version of Wi-Fi, 802.11ad, which offers multi-gigabit speeds.

Qualcomm also states that its new X12 LTE modem has been designed to choose automatically between LTE and Wi-Fi, depending on signal quality, end-to-end speed, and Internet availability. This is especially useful with Wi-Fi calling.

Speaking of which, X12 LTE comes with support for HD Voice calls over LTE and Wi-Fi, and even allows for native HD Video calls.

Bottom line is Snapdragon 820 takes advantage of the most advanced modem technology created by Qualcomm, featuring support for cutting-edge LTE-U technology, smart Wi-Fi calling, the fastest Wi-Fi technologies available, and exhilarating LTE speeds, plus way more.

Last but not least, Qualcomm has confirmed that the first smartphones to pack its powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset should arrive on the market in the first half of 2016.
