Qualcomm has officially taken the wraps off the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 Compute Platform, a new budget-friendly solution that’s supposed to power the transition to devices coming with weeks of battery life.

The always-connected Windows PCs, however, would be entry-level devices, and Qualcomm explains that the first PCs running on the platform should land in the summer.

Needless to say, this new model features massive upgrades as compared to the first-generation Snapdragon 7c, including longer battery life and improved performance.

“With an integrated CPU, GPU, AI, and cellular modem, this new compute platform enables incredibly fast system-level performance you wouldn’t expect for a device this thin, in this tier. Overall, Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 boasts up to 10 percent higher system performance compared to competitive platforms. It also offers up to 19+ hours of continuous use on a single charge, with up to 2x the battery life of typical entry-level laptops,” Qualcomm says.

Wi-Fi and 4G are both supported (5G doesn’t seem to be available), built-in GPS for location-based services is also there, and so is AI hardware for next-gen capabilities.

Qualcomm has also spent more time trying to improve the audio capabilities of the platform.

“Qualcomm Aqstic Audio technology, high-fidelity audio, and virtual surround sound come together to deliver crystal-clear, low-power audio and voice. The platform even boasts echo-cancellation and noise suppression (ECNS), so those you’re talking to can hear you better despite noise in your environment. And for the camera, enjoy up to 4K HDR video capture, playback, and streaming — all thanks to the Qualcomm Spectra 255 ISP; supporting up to a 32 MP camera and advanced features like low-light video,” the company explains.

Lenovo is one of the first companies to embrace the new platform, with the first devices projected to land in just a few months.
