Qualcomm has just announced Quick Charge 5, the company’s new charging solution that is capable of insane performance.

According to Qualcomm’s estimates, this new system can charge a 4,500 mAh battery from 0 to 50 percent in no less than five minutes, which makes it the fastest mobile charging solution currently available.

Furthermore, Quick Charge 5 is 70 percent more efficient than the fourth generation, and at the same time, it provides users with 10 times the power deliver of Quick Charge 1.

“Quick Charge 5 incorporates 12 separate voltage, current and temperature protections, including USB-input overvoltage protection at 25V and external power controls beyond 30V. It also runs 10 degrees Celsius cooler than Quick Charge 4,” Qualcomm explains in a press release (embedded below).

“Quick Charge 5 enables Dual/Triple Charge technology, adaptive input voltage, INOV4, Qualcomm Battery Saver and the new Qualcomm Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities technology, which work together to maximize power transfer efficiency, increase safety and help extend the battery life cycle on a users’ device.”

USB Type-C charging

Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 5 supports 100W+ charging power and comes with better thermal management, and according to the parent company, it should be able to work with over 1,000 accessories and over 250 mobile device brands.

The new feature will be available on the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865 Plus processors, and Qualcomm promises that more chips would support it going forward.

One thing that’s worth highlighting is that Quick Charge 5 is already optimized for use with USB-PD and USB Type-C, with the latter already one of the common connection standards that Android devices come with.

While more high-end Android device manufacturers are projected to embrace Quick Charge 5 in the coming months, Xiaomi is one of the first to do it, according to the press release.
