Announced during Quakecon’s opening livestream session, a new enhanced version of Quake is now available for purchase on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Since it’s developed by id Software, which is part of Bethesda, the enhanced version of Quake is also available for free to all Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Those who purchase the re-release will also receive the original Quake, its two official expansions, The Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity, as well as two expansions especially created by developer Machine Games, the studio behind Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

This re-release is backwards compatible with Xbox Series X/S and will also receive next-gen optimizations at a later date, bringing native 4K resolution and 120FPS (frames per second) to both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Currently, Quake has been updated for modern gaming systems, which means it features up to 4K resolution and widescreen support on compatible devices, enhanced models, dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field and more.

According to developers, Quake players will have tons of free levels to play with add-ons, providing post-launch support featuring some of the best content made by the community. It’s also important to mention that it’s not just the single player part that’s been enhanced, but the multiplayer aspect too, as Quake now supports local or online co-op for up to four players across its campaign.

Quake’s arenas, on the other hand, feature support for up to eight players with cross-platform support, custom matches, and even dedicated servers for online matchmaking.

To top it all off, Microsoft announced that Quake II and Quake III: Arena are also now available with Xbox Game Pass for PC in their original form.

Quake’s enhanced edition is available for purchase via Steam and Bethesda on PC, as well as on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch for $10. Those who already own a copy of the game will receive the enhanced edition for free.
