14 DAY TRIAL // The Q4OS development team informs Softpedia today about the immediate availability of the first development release of the upcoming Q4OS 3.1 operating system series.
Dubbed Centaurus, the Q4OS 3.1 series of the open-source distro is based on the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster" operating system, which currently lives in the Debian Testing repositories, and uses the development branch of the Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE), version 14.0.5.
"Q4OS Centaurus will be in development until Debian Buster becomes stable, and will be supported at least five years from the official release date," reads today's announcement. "Anybody is invited to try out the brand new version and report bugs and glitches."
Q4OS comes with exclusive utilities and features
Despite the fact that it's based on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system, every new Q4OS release comes with its own set of utilities and features that you probably won't find anywhere else. These include the "Desktop profiler" tool for profiling your computer, and a "Setup utility" tool that makes installation of third-party apps easier.
The Q4OS Linux OS also features a "Welcome Screen," like several other GNU/Linux distributions, which includes various shortcuts to make the configuration of the operating system a breeze for newcomers. Besides Trinity, users can install KDE Plasma 5, Xfce, LXQt, LXDE, and Cinnamon desktop environments.
The Q4OS desktop is powerful and reliable, and it's been designed from the offset for ex-Windows users who want to migrate to an open-source operating system.
